About Kaye

Born in the Music capitol of Texas in August of 1956.  Kaye began her life as Victoria Kaye Robinson, 3rd child of Marjorie and James Robinson.

How did Kaye get to be born in Travis County, in the Music Capitol of Texas, you ask?

The Robinson family, with daughter Anna Kathleen and son Jame Michael, moved from Kingsville to Austin so James could finish his Doctorate in Physics at the University of Texas.  It was during this time at UT that Kaye joined the family.  The Robinson family, new Doctorate degree awarded to James, returned to South Texas and James became a professor of physics at Texas College of Arts and Industries (Texas A&I).  Soon there after Brother Edward McNeely was on the way giving Marjorie and James 4 children.  It’s rumored that Father James at that point stated “4 and NO MORE!”

Within 2 years, James was offered the position of Dean of Texas A&I.  This brief shinning moment was soon clouded by the sudden illness and death of James Robinson at age 39.

Widowed with 4 children ages 12 down to 3, Marjorie did the only sensible thing a widow could do at that time.  She went crazy.  For about a year the 4 children and widow Robinson floundered in a kind of fatherless limbo.  The degree having died with the bread winner, Marjorie had to return to the work force.  Realizing that further education was needed Marjorie went to the director of Student Personnel at Texas A&I (now Texas A&M-Kingsville), Paul Barlow, to get advice.

When Paul tells this story it goes something like this, “a beautiful woman in a tight sweater entered my office and I was gone.”  In June of 1964 the Robinson’s became the Robinson/Barlow family and Paul became Dad extraordinaire!

In October of 1970 Cynthia arrived and the Barlow/Robinson Clan was complete.

In September of 1985, after graduating with a degree of course, Kaye became an Elementary Music Teacher.  After 13 years of teaching, she left the teaching profession to begin a second career as park manager in the Texas Hill Country.  In May of 2008, Kaye joined her brother Ed in a new adventure that continues to unfold….see the link to South Texas Stomp.

Life goes on…..
